Today, at the site of the Valdai Discussion Club, an expert meeting was held with the participation of Yerlan Karin, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations, on the topic "A New Stage of the Middle East Crisis: Problems of Returning Foreign Fighters."
“The Chairman of the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations, Erlan Karin, in his speech presented the main findings of the studies of radicalism in Central Asian countries, primarily in Kazakhstan, as well as the monitoring results on the participation of people from this region in Daesh and other radical groups.
According to him, in the Islamic groups operating on the territory of Syria and Iraq, immigrants from Russia, the Russian Caucasus and Central Asian countries account for up to one third of the total. Previously, radical Islamic groups were led by immigrants from Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, but the next generation of leaders will be radicals from the CIS and Central Asia. ”
